The two main risk periods are the planting period and the mid-summer draught period. Select the start of the risk period to quote.

Length of risk period

Select the length of cover for your quote: 30, 40, 50, or 60 days.

Depth

Select the depth for which the soil moisture will be measured: 20cm for planting and 40cm for mid-season draught.

Claims frequency

Select the frequency that you would like the policy to trigger: every 5, 8, 10, or 12 years.

Insured value

Select the value that you would like to insure in Rands per Hectare (R/ha).

Best Premium

This is the best premium rate for your imputs. So, if something really bad happens(like a -100% deviation), the insurance will cover the entire value of what you have insured.

Insured Rate

Select the rate that you would like to pay as a percentage (%) of your insured value.

Simulate your loss payment

Simulate a claim payout by applying a deviation value of the soil moisture between the norm and the actual soil moisture for the selected grid cell and risk profile.

SMI

By selecting an SMI simulation, a claim payout will be simulated based on the difference between the selected SMI and the trigger for the selected inputs. The trigger is shown on the slider.

Claim Payout

This is the potential claim payable for the selected inputs in rands per hectare (R /ha).

The SMI Chart illustrates the average fluctuation of the soil moisture index for the selected grid cell across a given year.

The Average SMI Chart illustrates the average soil moisture index for the selected grid cell in a given year for the selected risk period.

The Claim Payout Chart illustrates the simulated historical payouts based on the selected grid cell, risk period, and claims frequency.
